What does MODE actually do?
It lets the sender declare what an email needs — such as ACTION, REPLY, DECISION, ATTENTION or FYI — who the instruction applies to, and optionally when it is due. MODE places that information visibly at the start of the subject.
Do recipients need MODE installed?
No. The visible subject marker works as ordinary email text, so every recipient can understand it. Recipients with MODE get an enhanced read view and can store a personal Done state for actionable messages.
What do TO, CC and BOTH mean?
TO means the MODE instruction applies to direct recipients. CC means it applies to copied recipients. BOTH means both groups. BCC is never identified or exposed by MODE.
Can I add a due date?
Yes, for actionable modes. MODE can add a visible marker such as BY 08 OCT to the subject so the deadline is clear before the message is opened.
Can I customize the categories?
Yes. MODE includes sensible defaults but allows personal categories to be added, renamed or removed. Custom settings are stored locally.
What does “MODE live” mean?
It is a small license/status indicator showing that MODE is activated. It is not a message mode and does not appear as a selectable category.
What happens without a license?
During the current pilot MODE remains fully usable. In the commercial release, receiving and understanding MODE signals should stay open, while applying sender-side MODE signals requires an active license after the trial period.
How much does MODE cost?
Individual: €19 per year. Company: €0.50 per stated total employee per year, with a €99 annual minimum and unlimited internal users within the licensed organization.
Why is company pricing based on employee count instead of seats?
MODE is intended to become a shared communication convention across an organization. Headcount-based pricing keeps deployment simple and avoids having to count who used the add-in in a particular month.
Can I use Impact Points instead of money?
That is the intended second access route. A verified Impact Points redemption can activate the same individual MODE functionality. The bridge is included in the product architecture and becomes live when the LightImpact verification endpoint is connected.
Does MODE send my email content to DraftMode?
No message body or attachment content is sent to DraftMode. MODE only handles the limited metadata it needs for the feature: the subject, its MODE header, and on received messages the To/Cc role needed to determine whether the sender's signal applies to you. Commercial licensing may use your account email address and activation token to verify entitlement.
Can MODE run without Netlify or other external DraftMode hosting?
Yes. MODE Internal can be hosted on an organization's own approved HTTPS server. That deployment profile disables DraftMode/Netlify licensing calls and keeps the same MODE protocol. Outlook still needs access to its Office JavaScript runtime from an endpoint the organization allows.
Does it work on Outlook mobile?
Recipient/read functionality can be exposed in supported Outlook mobile contexts. The current sender-side MODE picker is designed for Outlook desktop and web because Microsoft does not expose the same interactive compose surface on mobile.
How do I install the guest test version?
After entering your guest code on the pricing page, download the MODE add-in file and follow the plain-language setup guide. Open the installation guide →
Where will I install MODE?
The public product is intended for discovery through Microsoft Marketplace / Outlook Apps. Licensing and activation are handled by DraftMode so the €19 individual and headcount-based company pricing can stay simple.
What does Mark done do?
It is personal to the recipient. It means that recipient has dealt with the MODE request. It does not currently notify the sender or complete the task for other recipients.
